Take with you an absent person, an absent time, a lost thought. Embark on an audio journey and a walk in the forest. 'A walk for the living'. GOLD focuses on the living, on the invisible community of those who remain.
The forest takes you out of the cultural time frame and context. You are with yourself, with your body. You decide your pace, your rhythm. And your rhythm influences that of the group. Walking, in silence. The choreography follows a simple rule: never lose sight of the person walking in front of you. The person behind you will do the same. Alone together, together alone.
At the beginning of the silent walk you cross the motorway bridge at ‘Forsthaus Grauholz’ - leave civilization and, as you enter the forest, leave the noise of the motorway behind you. Crossing a threshold. The walk is always scheduled either at dawn or dusk - the changing light conditions also support the feeling that you are crossing a threshold into another world.
From cultural time to natural time and back.

The walk starts and ends at the Dampfzentrale. The walk itself takes place in the Allmitwald forest and takes place in any weather (except during storms).

'A walk for the living': GOLD focuses on the living, on the invisible community of those who remain - on us.
"The Allmit is the forest of my childhood. When my father worked in this forest, he would lay me on a nest made of sticks and a woolen blanket. The movement of the branches against the sky is one of my earliest childhood memories. Forest time, nature time, tree time."
I, Kathrin Yvonne Bigler, have been working together with sound artist Christine Hasler for over 10 years. Together we have realised numerous performance projects in the fields of theatre, dance, audio/sound design and community art.
In 2021, Christine and I had the ‘Continuer Stipendium’, where we asked ourselves fundamental questions about making theatre after Covid and the relationship with the audience.
2022/23 The development grant from the cantonal cultural funding program allowed us to continue working on our artistic questions directly following the ‘Continuer Stipendium’: The result was a year of research with a lot of audience participation in collaboration with the Dampfzentrale Bern 2024/25. Now GOLD is premiering on 22 June 2024 in co-production with the Dampfzentrale Bern, and expected completion in winter 2025.
